Vacation Day One
It's hard to believe we left almost a week ago, and this is the first I'm blogging about it. And I really should be in bed, so this will have to be short....
We left our home in hot, sunny FL Tuesday evening about 8:30PM. I drove until about 1:30 when both the car and I were running out of gas :-). The Hubs took over, and he drove while I snoozed in short intervals until about 7:30AM when I resumed driving again. We got to our destination, Gettysburg PA, about 11AM. We went to the visitors center, took potty breaks, and decided that lunch was the first thing on the agenda. We eat at the Appalachian Brewing Company, and it was YUMMY. Oh, MY. I could be as big as a barn if I lived closer.
With lunch out of the way, we began our driving tour of Gettysburg which I had purchased in advance for about $17 new including expedited shipping. That's a great deal, because it sells for $30 new there. It's well done, if a little tedious for Sari, but with all the starts and stops, we only got a little more than half way done before it was time to go check in at our hotel and find dinner. I scored a great deal on our hotel with a special internet rate which made it cheaper than a cottage at the local camp ground! And it included breakfast for free and had a (small) pool that TJ and Sari took advantage of before dinner. I watched them at the pool, but then I was EXHAUSTED and made them get out so we could go to the room and eat. I begged the Hubs to go fetch Subway (which he did), and after that I swear I fell asleep sitting up. I know it's true because I woke to that all-too-familiar head-jerking thing going on. I did rally thanks to my after dinner nap for a trip to Brewster's for ice cream since it was right down the road. After that, we needed no encouragement to go to bed!

Sari at Devil's Den. Right after this, she almost slipped off the rocks (note the NOT-for hiking footwear) and grabbed my shorts to save herself. Great, except my shorts had an elastic waist. And the rocks behind me were COVERED with a teen aged youth group just sitting around waiting on someone to tell them when to get back on the bus. And half of them were looking our way. And in falling Sari managed to pull down my shorts in the back and show my undies to all of them...it was special ;-)
Edited to add-that night, Mimi asked me to come into the bathroom with her...to remove a large tick from her lower body...I mention it because critters are going to be a vacation theme this year, just wait and see.

Looks like a fun, educational trip. Tip duly noted about hiking with young ones: good shoes and NO elastic waists!
Hope you're resting up well.My hubby always says the whole point of vacation is to make you glad to be home again...we don't go on MANY trips, with that mentality in the family!
