Three Things Thursday- 3/27/14

It's time for Three Things Thursday.  Well, actually yesterday was.  Today, I'm a day late and a dollar short, but let's just pretend, shall we?

1)  TJ has started soccer as of this week.  Their first practice was cold and rainy.  Like upper 30s/low 40s and rainy.  With wind.  From 5-6:15, so it was getting colder as the non-existent sun went down.  I felt horrible for the kids and for the coach and assistant coach who all had to be out in the weather, so I felt like it was wrong of me to sit in my nice warm car safely out of the elements while they suffered.  I did make a quick trip across the street to the grocery store to grab some paper towels, but then I went back and stood under my umbrella in the rain and watched those boys drill their hearts out.  Only one other parent was out there with me.  Just call us the crazy ones.

2)  Tomorrow is my birthday.  I'll be 40 something ;-).  It's like 30 something, but no one makes a TV show about it.  I don't mind getting older at all, but if other people's kids could stop growing up, that would be great...I mean, who are these youngsters who were just toddlers and now are getting their driver's licenses, and graduating, and going to prom (not in that order, obviously)?  My own kids are growing up too, but I see them day in and day out, so those changes are more subtle.  Although I am having to start thinking of high school for a second student in the fall.  A local radio station today was discussing what you would say if you could go back in time and give advice to your 20 year old self.  That led to a discussion with my girls about stuff...the stuff you think you need, the stuff you want to have, the stuff you find yourself decades later giving away because it won't fit in a 26 foot U-Haul and you realize you never should have bought it to being with...Hoping to impress upon them that their treasures are in heaven, and everything else is just...stuff, especially in light of my #3.

3)  I'd like to ask you, my bloggy friends, to join me in prayer for my friend Marie's brother.  He's 40, a husband, and a father to 2 young boys...and he was just diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma.  It's especially hard for a bazillion reasons...Rob lives half the country away from his sister and his parents.  He doesn't have a great build in support system up there.  Marie and our group of friends, we lost a friend to this same cancer a few years ago.  A friend who left behind a husband and two young children.  So while the doctors are reassuring that there are new treatments everyday, the practical reality of the statistics is not so rosey.  But in the end, Marie, and all of us, knows that God has this.  He is our Healer.  None of this caught Him by surprise, and He knows the end from the beginning and indeed the very number of our days.  No one is snatched away prematurely, and everyone is healed, but some are granted that healing on this side of Heaven, and some not.  So will you join my, my bloggy friends, in praying for Rob and his family?  Pray for his healing, for wisdom, for peace, and most of all, for God's will to be done, and Him to be glorified.
