Summer Vacation Part 4-Watkins Glen

The kids are the colored specks up on the bridge.

The Glen is a staple in our travels to the Finger Lakes. There is really nothing prettier. We don't do it every year, and we don't climb the whole thing every time (this time we did about a third of it), but we try to go frequently enough that the kids will always remember it. From an evolutionary explanation, it was carved out millions of years ago...blah, blah, blah. So we just ignore the information on the signs and go with God's explanation. As Mimi said, it was carved out as the flood waters drained. It's a gorge, and there are tons of waterfalls throughout. Access to the Glen was created as a CCC project during FDR's presidency. It doesn't not even remotely meet ADA requirements-it's steep,

sometimes slippery,

and often wet (the trail goes right behind this waterfall, and I can't even stand all the way up behind it)

but worth it.
